What to see, what to do in Vogüé?

First you can admire the site as a whole, for example from the Via Ardèche: above a meander of the Ardèche river, its magnificent castle and its 4 imposing towers seems to extend the cliff; it is surrounded with a charming village made up of arcades and alleys whose stone houses display their changing colors according to the hour or the season. You will understand why Vogüé was a finalist in the televised contest of the "favorite village of the French" and is one of the "Villages of Character" in Ardèche.

As you get closer, you can stroll through the small stone alleys that zigzag towards the castle. We strongly recommend that you visit it! Built in the 11th century on the ruins of an ancient fort, it has been constantly altered throughout history, while belonging to the same family for over 1,000 years, as you will discover during a guided tour. All year round, events are organized in this splendid setting, and even a discovery game for children in high season!

The classified village of Vogüé also offers you a renowned swimming spot on the Ardèche river, with a pretty little beach at the foot of the village. From this beach, you can kayak down the river, as Vogüé is a well-known starting point for canoeing down the Ardèche.

To enjoy a different view, you can take the path which leads behind the castle to the Giraud quarries, on the cliff; here the famous “Pierre Bleue de Vogüé” (blue stone of Vogüé) was extracted and carved for many years. A permanent guided track traces the different stages from the extraction to the meticulous carving of the stone. Nearby you will reach the Saint Cerice chapel which offers a remarkable panorama over the Ardèche River and a different viewpoint over the Voguë castle. By following the path you can return to the campsite, by a rarely used path.

But there’s more than the architectural and historical heritage close to the 3-star Les Peupliers campsite! Come and discover the culinary heritage and watch the making of real artisanal nougat, made with Ardèche ingredients, 10 minutes' walk from the campsite. Our partner Le Genêt d'Or organizes free discovery tours all year round for the young and the older.

How to reach Vogüé from Les Peupliers campsite?

Different routes are available to you, and can be the opportunity for a nice stroll with family or friends.

You can go to Vogüé village on foot or by bike from the campsite by taking the Via Ardèche greenway, following the former track of the old railway line. You will then have a very nice view of the Ardèche River and the castle from the "curved" bridge which overlooks the river.

Another alternative is to take the path that leads to the Giraud quarries and therefore enjoy a beautiful path and a beautiful view downhill to Vogüé.

You can also reach the old village directly on foot along the road (about 15 minutes).

Do not hesitate to ask us for advice at reception!

Where to find out about Vogüé and its surroundings?

At reception, we will of course be happy to complete your information. But do not hesitate to go to the Vogüé Tourist Office, which is located at the foot of the alleys leading to the castle. You will be very welcome, and they can provide you with exhaustive information, especially as the Tourist Office covers the entire territory of "Pont d'Arc - Ardèche" including the area stretching from the Gorges de l 'Ardèche to Vogüé via Ruoms.
